The Shavertown Volunteer Fire Department was established in May of 1925 as the Shavertown Chemical Company #1.  We are the third oldest department in the Back Mountain.  Today, 91 years later, we protect 950 homes and businesses in the northern section of Kingston Township. We provide this 100% professional volunteer service FREE to you, the resident. Our money to run the department comes from donations and fundraisers from people like you, as we receive limited support from the township. We are dispatched to approximately 200 responses per year including fires, motor vehicle accidents, assists to other departments, natural disasters, and even to pump out flooded basements. We are dispatched through Luzerne County 911 as Station 251 as of January 2005.

We run two apparatus from our headquarters located at 170 North Main Street.  We have one Spartan/Ferrera pumper (Engine 251), one 105′ Pierce Aerial  (Truck 251) and one 1988 Ford/Eone Squad Truck (Squad 251).  We are also a member of the Back Mountain Fireman’s Association and associate members in Back Mt. Regional Fire/EMS.

The fire departments Ladies Auxiliary disbanded in 2011 after 85 years of service to the community as well as the fire department.
